The Wroclaw Marathon
The Marathon is nearly 42 kilometres long and takes place annually in the spring (the 18th Marathon took place in 2000). Anyone 18 years old or older can participate. The competitors are graded separately (women, men, and both sexes according to age), as well as team and wheelchair categories (women, men). The Marathon is accompanied by the Wroclaw Mini-Marathon covering a distance of approximately 4.2 km and a Children's Run with a distance of 500 to 1000 metres. People over 12 have the right to compete in the Mini-Marathon, while children between 8 and 13 can participate in the Children's Run.
Wroclaw Open
The biggest sports & recreational event in Wroclaw. Anyone can participate in the Championship regardless of age - both amateurs and professionals. There are over ten games for competition including badminton, races, basketball, ice-skating, football, swimming, volleyball, shooting, chess, tennis and table tennis. The Championship lasts the whole year, the winners earn keepsake medals and diplomas.
Lower Silesia Student Games
The event includes competitions for primary school, college and secondary school students. The purpose of the event is the propagation of sport and healthy living, as well as selection of teams for nationwide events. The contest takes place in stages: at the school, in the community, in the province, and at the regional level. Students can compete in more than ten games (including light athletics, cross country running, volleyball, basketball, handball, soccer, table tennis, chess, ice-skating, skiing, aerobic exercises, badminton and mountain biking).
